In honor of Women’s History Month, our all-women team reflected on what it means to be a woman of color, leading in today’s socioeconomic climate. Read about what we had to say!

Nydia Peña, Senior Program Manager

Women’s History Month is deeply personal to me as a woman of color. It is a time to honor women, especially those whose stories weren’t always told, the ones who broke barriers and created opportunities so many of us have today, and to keep moving forward for the generations to come. It reminds me that equity moves forward because women, often against the odds, choose to lead, speak up, and drive change.

Joyce Cam, Events and Marketing Specialist

As a woman of color, I am inspired by our mission and vision as it is near and dear to my heart. In my professional career, I could recognize spaces or experiences where I was not welcomed, acknowledged, or heard. The work we do makes a difference in providing a safe space for community, voices, and change.

Amy Vaught, Member Services and Operations Manager

...true leadership is inclusive. Leadership without valuing people isn’t leadership; it’s herding people. Inclusive leadership means being in the trenches with your team; it means doing the work instead of talking about it. Inclusive leadership means investing in your team and building them up. It’s vulnerable, brave, and essential.

Partners in Diversity is proud to spotlight one of our community partners, the Chinese American Citizens Alliance (C.A.C.A). Read about them below!

"We make a living by what we get,

but we make a life by what we give."

- Gloria Lee

Founded in 1921 during the era of the Chinese Exclusion Act, the Chinese American Citizens Alliance Portland Lodge (C.A.C.A.) began as a civil rights and community anchor at a time when Chinese Americans were excluded from full participation in public life. Today, as one of 20 lodges under the national Chinese American Citizens Alliance, C.A.C.A. Portland continues its 105-year legacy of advancing civil rights, civic engagement, and community leadership — work that directly strengthens pathways for professionals of color across generations.

A special thank you to our members for their continued commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion:
