Black PRG: Black Portland Stories: Identity, Belonging, and Becoming

Friday, February 20, 2026 (6:30 PM - 8:30 PM) (PST)

Description

An evening of storytelling and conversation exploring the history, culture, and lived experiences of Black Portland.

Black in Portland: Stories of Identity, Belonging, and Becoming is an intimate evening of storytelling and reflection centered on the lived experiences of Black individuals navigating life, work, and community in Portland.

Through the voices of four panelists, the conversation explores what it means to be Black in Portland from distinct yet interconnected perspectives: the experience of being Black, professional, and queer; the experience of being Black and deeply rooted in the city; and the experience of being Black and transplanted—choosing Portland and learning how to belong within it. Together, these stories illuminate the complexity of identity, the search for belonging, and the ongoing process of becoming in a city that often feels both progressive and isolating.

Designed as a space for listening, learning, and honest dialogue, the evening invites attendees to engage with personal narratives that move beyond headlines and history books—offering insight into resilience, visibility, community-building, and the quiet negotiations of daily life. The setting is intentionally reflective and welcoming, allowing room for shared understanding, thoughtful questions, and connection.

This event is open to all who are interested in deepening their understanding of Black experiences in Portland and engaging in meaningful conversation about identity, place, and community.
